Given Jeff's record of actually showing up for a show/tour, would you sign him up?

Because almost everyone else's skills have degraded to some extent. Some self-inflicted, some not, but to see not only no degradation, but actual improvement in precision, fluidity, and musicality at his age is remarkable. I'm going to credit it to Vinnie and Tal, because otherwise it doesn't make much sense to me.

Along similar ageist lines, I caught JPJ with the Vultures the other day. He, too, may have improved. And he, like Beck, looks likes he's having an absolute ball.

My understanding is that he's pretty reliable these days, but I'm not a tour venue, nor its booking agency.

Quite true. How do you feel about Page currently? He appears to be back on form. I'm very curious as what will come with his latest project.

Another example of a guitarist in the rock genre who seems to have gotten better with age is Richard Thompson (he's 60 years old). IMO, he's the best right now for both acoustic and electric playing combined.
 
Page seems healthy, for a change, and happy. I like the new look. He's playing well for a guy who was inconsistent even at his best, who just about destroyed himself with heroin, and whose skills (including his musicality) have degraded. But he really needs warmup time and a few shows under his belt to demonstrate this; his one-offs, though not the train wrecks they used to be (for example, see the "Immigrant Song/Beck's Bolero" performance he did with Beck's band, which was pretty good although it didn't ask much of Page), are always dicey.
 
Let's celebrate the late 70s and have a halftime show featuring Graham Parker, Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson, and Joni Mitchell!

Do you think Bromberg could teach the young 'uns that you've got to suffer if you want to sing the blues? They seem to have no idea.
 
The really fitting group to play a Superbowl halftime show would have been the Plasmatics, but with Wendy O. over a decade gone, that ain't gonna happen. Unless maybe Ringo (or someone similar) has a daughter who could be hired to play in her place.
 
The Plasmatics could really put on a show. I saw them at what I remember was a Holiday Inn in Half Moon Bay. I think I just sat there with my jaw dropped the entire show.

Wendy O's gone? I guess I haven't been paying attention

This is why my mom wouldn't let me go see them open up for Kiss when I was in 3rd grade. I had tickets and she still wouldn't let me go. C'mon! Kiss, w/make-up, in Detroit, Plasmatics opening! So what if I was only 8. Damn you mom.

That's OK, Lars. My mom didn't let me go to Altamont -- just think where that might have led to. I did get to see WOW and the Plasmatics in '80 or '81 at the Whisky-a-Go-Go, if memory serves. She and they were quite an experience.

Recently, it seems to me at least, the Super Bowls have gotten consistently better. You don't have as many blow-outs like you used to. I think the last really awful Super Bowl I can remember is the Giants-Ravens in 2000.

It also helps that there are more pass-heavy offenses now, which helps games become more exciting. I like three yards and a cloud of dust as much as the next person, and I still prefer to watch teams with tough defenses, but the big passes has helped keep teams in games they would probably have been guaranteed to lose twenty years ago.

In many respects, there remain seriously unresolved issues from that time. We're dominated by
the massive military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned about in 1961 which has managed to manipulate us into more war. Despite progress environmentally which began back then, we remain enslaved to the fossil fuel industrial complex and climate charge is not being adequately addressed. The religious right and social conservatives continue to wage culture war those they disapprove of which began with the counterculture of the 60s.
