what about bear whiz beer?

LOL! I was going to copy the responses into an email and send them on but now I'm not so sure.

He started down the vegan road last summer - he and his wife and I were talking and he invited me over for dinner - and his wife said, don't worry I'll add something you and I can eat.

He made a vegan pasta - and it was actually quite good. But how often can you do that?

And I know he plans to eat at Arpege so he's apparently going to break the rules a bit.

Its not all lentil burgers and brown rice. There's some people trying to do some creative things with vegan food. Millenium in SF comes to mind.

well, they can now measure the defenses a carrot puts up when it is peeled. people for the ethical treatment of vegetables, anyone? and some day we'll all know that algae has feelings too. eat and/or be eaten. we're all food.

read "The Edible Woman" by Margaret Atwood. It begins with an aversion to very rare steak, favored by her loutish boyfriend. Before long, she descends into fear of salad, due to the cries of the lettuce as it's torn.

See, vegans are nuts!

btw, they were to leave DC for Paris today - wonder if they did.

The archly named Ubuntu is the best vegan restaurant food I've ever had.
It's vegetarian not vegan. At least the pizza has cheese on it!

Usually about half or more of the menu is vegan. But apparently you don't like it anyway! (Please ignore my previous post - clearly you have been there.)

My wife and I love that place.
Best, Jim

That's good to hear. I haven't been there yet, but had an outstanding dinner prepared by Jeremy when he was sous chef at Manresa.

Mark, Scott and whoever else is reading,
That is a place we would love to go, anytime. If you are in the Napa/Sonoma area, and we are, we'll meet you there.
I have them on speed dial.
Truly inspired food.
Best, Jim

Tan Dinh Restaurant.
60, rue de Verneuil, Paris

WTF? Everything seemed meaty every time I was there.

Besides, Tan Dihn was been well and truly picked over about 10 years ago. The bargains are gone. Was walking distance from my folks place.
