Fo'c'sle

Oswaldo Costa

Oswaldo Costa
2007 Salentein Merlot Reserva Uco Valley 14.5%
For some time now I've been wanting to use the word fo'c'sle in a tasting note. The restless consonants jumping and tumbling over to the other side; not one but two apostrophes standing in the place of vanished letters; irresistible. But it's been difficult. So when last night I encountered a wine for which I could not find a positive word to say, I remembered the distinguished witt who said "about what one can not speak, one must remain silent." Too prolix to take such good advice, I will nevertheless limit this review to a single, positive, word: fo'c'sle.

Oswaldo I would go for the full 3 apostrophe version [fo'c's'le] for the truly mute requirement and consider 'forecastle' for one that you feel has a lot more to say :)

I understand that The Politburo has nominated this post for "Most useless of the year award. Of course this could all change when Kane posts the next time.

Nah, utility is prized by Anglo-Saxons but not by Russians and Latins.
