Chinato in NorCal/Central Coast?

I just talked to Darrell and told him that someone claimed he didn't have Barolo Chinato in stock, and indeed didn't know what it was, and there was an appalled silence on the other end of the line.

They normally carry three examples, Cocchi, Vajra and Cappellano, but they're out of the Cappellano. Vajra would be worth tasting, I imagine.

Maybe there's a bad liquor store called Corti Brothers? I just passed a very dodgy-looking service station here in Oakland called Berry Brothers Towing, so anything is possible (for those of you familiar with the London fine wine market)

Just kidding.

I used to work at a place called Daniel, named for the chef. There was also a waiter there named Daniel, as it would happen. People would thank him for good service, and he would say "Well, my name is on the door."
Dave? Dave's not here, man.

I applaud the length to which Disorderlies are willing to go to help out a fellow Disorderly.

On another subject, if you are considering making a donation to Haitian relief, if you do it by March 1 you can deduct it from your 2009 taxes. This is from Jan Rosen writing in this past Sunday's NYT:

People who donated cash to a charity for Haitian earthquake relief after Jan. 11 of this year and before March 1, including contributions made by text message, check, credit card or debit card, may claim an itemized deduction on either their 2009 or 2010 returns. Donations made after that will be deductible only for 2010.

I was owed a telephone call then. The "Darrell" I talked to took my name and number and agreed to call me back if they had it in stock.

The Vajra is not for the VA-sensitive, at least when I tried it at Levi's Temple o' Bitterness (and Walnut Shack). Since I'm so-afflicted, I couldn't appreciate it. Hopefully others will enjoy it more.

Levi, do you know anyone who imports or sells Chinotto Neri? Greatly prefer it to the San Pelligrino variety but have been unable to find it stateside.

No, I am sorry. I spent a lot of time trying to find alternatives back awhile ago, and came up empty.
Alas, 'twas as I suspected.

Given the renewed interest in bitter beverages here it does seem like it might stand a chance at finding an audience. At the very least, among bartenders seeking new things to play with.

I searched Galco's Soda Pop Stop for Chinotto, and they only offer the SP bottling, which is depressing.
