Wish I had a spare $1000

Any idea how many people can (and might) attend this event? Or maybe the $20,000 revenue projection at $995 per person indicates 20 people!?!

and how much (if any) of that cost is tax-deductible???

Good question, Maureen. As I'm sure you know, IRS rules say that you have to deduct the fair market value of any goods or services received, so how much do the dinner and wine cost? I would hope that the organizers would present all participants with a document making the value of their tax-deductible contribution clear.

the text says: "Not only will you experience one of the great wine and food events of your life, your payment will go directly to CHF, with the full $995 going to CHF's work on the ground in Haiti."

I would think they would not lie about that.

I'd go just for the food!

doesn't it seem a bit heavy and way too black truffle-centric? I am all in favor of fresh white truffles and older barolo, but black truffles, in March, in NYC? Seems like an image of luxury for its own sake. (Not that i don't acknowledge Chef Humm as a guy who know more about food, and WAY more about cooking it, than I.)
