Frank and his tanks (Anfore)

If you had the chance to ask mr. frank cornelissen some questions about his wines, philosophy, clay pots, etc what would they be?

I'd like to know what Frank thinks the difference is between successful and unsuccessful winemaking. This could be regarding his own or others' techniques.

And I'd like to ask him how often he feels he achieves that in any of his offerings. Short term, long term, whichever applies.

PS - I'm talking about "success" primarily in terms of what the winemaker wanted to achieve, not sales.

Might as well add this too...what does Frank think about the fine line between non-interventionist approaches being a vehicle for soil to grape to glass "purity" vs a vehicle which in the end shows the winemaking imprint more than anything else?

Ducking and running for cover now.

Doing nothing is also a decision.

At least in my mind, that's built into the question....but if it's not apparent, let the record show it is now.

I'm curious if he still insists he can drink a half-case of unsulfured wine all by himself without aftereffects.

When I was in college, a local shop called Rowinski's had a deal where if you could eat an entire 5 lb cheesecake by yourself, you didn't have to pay for it.

Pay with a transfer of money, you mean.
Yes, I suppose.

I never even watched it happen, but I hear the football players went for it.

I suppose you wouldn't have to eat again for days, but that's less of a savings if you're on a meal plan.

It was directly implied. My comments simply mirrored yours.

All of these things are the result of decisions. That's why the folks who claim their hands are tied vis-a-vis picking, etc. are being a bit dishonest.

Truth be told, I was most intruigued by a comment made awhile back describing Frank's wines as being "baroque". That seems rather ironic given that "baroque" to me means overly decorative and/or overly manipulated. I probably missed the nuance, but it struck me as a glaringly odd juxtaposition...accurate or not. There was also a "signal/noise" ratio mentioned, which makes more sense to me...so it wasn't that I didn't follow completely. The latter analogy seems more in line with the dissention surrounding the approach.

If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

My first thought was that this was a Frippism.

Discipline is not an ends to a mean
But an end in itself

Mark Lipton

p.s. I'd have had no trouble believing that it was taken from an Oblique Strategies card, either.

My favorite Frippery (which my original couplet was not) is still:

Tuning a Mellotron doesn't.

...but it's very, very insider.

Thor kicks things off with a Rush quote, and Mark fills in for Bueker with the obligatory King Crimson reference. All we need now is Perry to pipe up with some Dune passages, and Dressner is guaranteed to return from hiatus.
