2006 Richard Leroy Anjou Les Nols de Montbenault

I've had mixed experiences with Richard Leroy and I know some folks love the wines but I am yet to be convinced. I was led to believe that this wine had good lively acidity for 2006 and would show lots of elegance. Maybe for some people in some places at some times, but unfortunately those aspects didn't come out to play last night in our bottle.

It was certainly prone to flatter the taste buds with forward fruity flavors and richness and there was some elegance to the texture. But overall it came off as too heavy for my liking. Maybe it just needed many many many hours of air? Oh well. Maybe I'll have a better experience next time.
 
I haven't had the 2006. Since Bowler picked them up, I haven't been willing to pay the going rate. I went through a few bottles of the 2004, however. The Noels was uneven at first, marked by wood. But after it settled, the next few were beautiful. I pulled one from storage a little while back but haven't had the occasion yet.
 
These were imported by Weygandt and were part of the 45% off sale. So $16 as opposed to $30 wasn't bad for a wine to take to a casual party. But I still wouldn't do it again..

The salesman told me the wood has been less marked in recent vintages because they purchased new barrels for their early vintages but haven't had the money to keep buying them. So the barrels are getting older. But something still wasn't clicking.

Oh well.
 
Wow, for $16 I would stock up on the basis of the last couple of 04's I tried. Sorry to hear it didn't show well.

I think Weygandt ships to Nyc. You can always call their DC store :)

But, I fully accept that our bottle is not the last word on this wine. So maybe I'll keep my Leroy dream alive..
 
Hello,
I tasted two 06 this week-end. They were totaly closed. I try again, 24 hours later : still closed.
The 07 are singing, 04 & 03 too.
