does anyone have some good, authentic, under the tourist radar restaurants in berlin and prague. any help would be much appreciated!

Cafe Savoy in the old city part of Prague for the ham. I'm almost willing to cover the cost of your meal to tell me if the ham is still that good.
I'm not sure how under the radar it is, though. It's part of a group of restaurants, but it's not like a chain. At least a chain that we have in the United States.

I don't know if 'authentic' food is necessarily the same priority in places like Prague and Berlin that it might be in places where the cuisine is more highly-praised.
That said, I'm sure you'll be able to eat well. Probably with more variety in Berlin. I've eaten well in both cities, but then I don't eat meat and was definitely picking around the margins of standard restaurant fare for the locals.

In Prague we had a lovely dinner at Strelecky Ostrov. It's on an island in the Vltava with a view of the National Theater, swan boats, etc. It's an international menu (e.g., took a chance on a risotto and was rewarded with a good one), though. Some interesting wines and a knowledgable sommelier.
Our best finds for traditional food were U Pinakasu, Jungmannovo nm. 15/16 (a pub & grill kind of place whose claim to fame is that they were the first to bring Pilsner Urquell to Prague) and U Mlejnice, Kon 14 (located in the tourist area but serving a traditional menu; it fills up easily so go early).

We spent about a week or 10 days in Prague fall of 08 and to be honest we ate in some pretty good restaurants patronized by the locals but nothing I would rate as outstanding or exciting. I'm sure there must be some better ones that others are aware of in Prague. There wasn't one that I felt was good enough to warrant taking notes.

In Prague, we did enjoy Kampa Park, though it can be a bit touristic. Great views and atmosphere. From their website:

I can recommend La Finestra. Excellent Italian food in a wonderful setting. Many of the ingredients brought in daily from Italy by the owners who also have an Italian deli. Apparently, a lot of Italians bought property in Prague when the euro came and they needed to launder their hidden liras before the tax authorities caught them.
