Baker and Banker Review in SF Chron

we write a detailed description of every wine (kept on the floor during service) as a group. I feel that we'll all understand the wines better in writing our own manual, complete with pairings, origin, winemaking, history, and so on. The staff is into it. I am lucky that they're so enthusiastic.

That's cool.

Anybody had '96 Oddero lately?
Had it last Friday. It still needs some time to open even after decanting, and it will be even better with more age, but you can drink it now. Very good La Morra character. You looking at Perbacco's list?

Had Erbaluna? That's some delicious La Morra wine right there. I've got the '99 coming on next week, and man - it's a dinger.

I enjoy Erbaluna's wines a bit and i find that they are started to really make more enjoyable wines in their other categories as well; dolcetto, barbera, d-b blends, etc. A few years ago their wines were too much for me, just blown out and over the top. Too wound up. I havent had the 99 barolo in a while from them but last tasted the 05 and found it nice though i struggle with their (local) price structure.

Have had 97 Oddero Barbaresco lately and that is a monster in need of much more time i'd say. Not sure on the 96. Barolo or Barbaresco?

Here's a wine list (pdf) that I will have to navigate on Saturday. I'm thinking of ordering Il Mimo for the sweet/white drinkers and the MAV for the red drinkers (and not the wine called "Bitch" or "Eaten by Bears").

Anyone see anything better, at a reasonable tariff?

Beringer Knights Valley Cab. Two for each guest.

... In a beer bong.

I so promise to read this thread tomorrow when I can read again.

But I thought you folks might like to know, Giorgio Clai's wines went over like a smash tonight at El Barzon.

So, I read through the whole thread. Forget what brought me here exactly. But I have a feeling our list at the Woodlot might be written for Yixin. As of yet it has no grouping, nor organizing principle. Presumably one will emerge. The Wine-Therapy-inside-joke-and-rebuttal-quip approach.

We should lobby Collin to come to DC and open a wine bar. Ten Bells South or Terroir Mid-Atlantic. Don't care what you call it.
