Bob S. that is. Bob organized a while back a 1998 Barolo (and Barbaresco) dinner here in DC and "banned" me from bringing any wine. So OK, I said, next time we'll share the 1998 Giuseppe Rinaldi Langhe Nebbiolo. Well, Bob, I am sorry to say, it won't happen. And what a pity.

To my surprise, my wife asked what are we drinking tonight, and the only thing that I had "ready to go" was this - and a 1995 Clos des Papes, but I might sell that, to buy more barolo.

So anyhow, the Rinaldi, what a wine! One of the best wine experiences I have had. It might be psychology in that I did not expect a lot and the wine exceeded my expectation, but I don't think that this was the main thing. It's funny though, it didn't have many things but what it did have, it did in a thrilling way.

So again, sorry Bob.

P.S. Is Hungarian Pick Salami the best or what? I am open to suggestions.
 
Pick (not pink) - that's the brand. But hey, worse things have happened.

As for the Rinaldi, as far as I know, the Langhe Nebbiolo is not imported in the US unfortunately, and I think it is made in tiny quantities anyways. My bottle came from CSW but it was a parcel they bought from a cellar in Italy.

Rahsaan you would have liked it a lot. Especially with the pink salami.

You try the '95 Clos des Papes lately? It's a beautiful wine.

Oh, what a great wine that is. Gorgeous. I brought a bottle to dinner a few months back, and it was completely overlooked by SFJoe, Kane (what's new?), the Levi guy, and the rest of the Hitler youth. Beyond me why, but I didn't say much at the time, having personally contributed the bottle. Where is dal Piaz when you need him.

Huh. I don't recall trying this wine at all and that's surprising because G. Rinaldi is one of my favorite Barolo producers. You sure you didn't bogart the bottle?

I remember I brought a Giuseppe Rinaldi 1995 Barolo to a dinner we were all at. I think you might be conflating two different evenings. But maybe not.

Glad it was so good.

It's my own damn fault for not getting going on the long-threatened follow-up event. I'll move it up my to-do list.

Look who is conflating !
 
I know it was a magnum, just I didn't think I needed to say that.

Really, if I overlooked a gem from Rinaldi, then I apologize for the oversight, as I would have expected better of myself.
 
It's okay, not profound.

Drinking now or close to soon, at least out of magnum. Shows some maturity on the developed finish. Pretty, straightforward red fruit profile on the mid-palate.
