Huet Chadderdont?

JBrennan

Jim Brennan
I recently heard that The Rare Wine Company has displaced Chadderdon as Huet's US agent... am I alone in hearing this? Apparently Polaner is offering Huet via TRWC, with shipments due in a few weeks. Any chance that Chadderdon remains the official source, with TRWC acting in a gray market capacity? Or is this all just rumor?

I missed the development of that thread into something else. Thanks!

As an aside, it would be interesting to see if you can find out anything regarding the estate's motivation in changing importers.

If you have ever dealt with Chadderdon that question answers itself.

if it were that simple, Chadderdon wouldn't have been their agent for as long as he has been. I wonder what changed the situation.

Maybe Huet was looking for wider distribution in the US. I never see it sold in the DC area and I read in the other thread that Chadderdon was NY centric.

It is good news for me at least. Lots of stores in my area distribute wines from Rare Wines, so I should be able to literally walk down to the corner and pick up some Huet rather than having to mail order.

Actually, Country Vintner used to distribute Huet in the DC area (from Chadderdon I think) but dropped it a few years ago. Sometimes Macarthurs finds some to buy.

Interesting. Coincidentally, I think Country Vintner distributes Rare Wines in DC, so I'm hoping they start redistributing Huet. Doesn't Country Vintner also distribute Foreau in DC as well?

And yes, I forgot about MacArthurs. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up the '86(?) Huet they had a few months back.

It is that simple. The owners finally wised up to what American wholesalers, retailers and restaurants have known for decades. French producers move slow on things like this.

WinebowWinebow lists Huet as one of the wines the company distributes.

Winebow is, or was, the Connecticut wholesaler for Chadderdon so they distribute, or distributed whatever he told them they could buy from him there. Winebow is not and never has been an importer of Huet.

Thanks for the clarification.

Winebow purchased the CT distributor for Chadderdon a few years ago and, as a result, for a short time was his distributor until they severed their relationship and Winebow continued to sell off what they already had in inventory.

Severed their relationship with Chadderdon? Didn't they know how fortunate they were?

All I know is I availed myself mightily on the '01 Boxler and '02 Huet we had on closeout, but just missed out on the '99 Jasmin at $20 a bottle as a store beat me to it by about 20 minutes.

I thought Foreau is a Rosenthaul import, which I think means Potomac Selections would distribute them in DC.

And "Rosenthal", although "Rosenthaul" does have a very appealing and ironic ring to it.
