Who sez white wines don't age?!

I guess we have to consider the possibility that Nathan is the Politburo.

The time-tested policy for dealing with politburos, Ian, is to treat everyone as either a politburo member or informer. Remember, even the walls have ears!

Over-rated.

Soul-less.

Yawn.

The mother of my twins is right.

all the whites showed well, the reds not so much. the '73 was simply fantastic in every possible way! best rioja i have ever experienced.

I was going to say I've never had a red LdH let me down, but this week drank a bottle of the 1998 Tondonia Reserve that was kind of blah.

Which reds did you drink?

81 bosconia and 76 tondonia. 76 was great (not the levels attained by the whites), but the 81 did nothing for me.

however, we only had one of each bottle, and there is always the bottle variation question...

That is, unless you happen to be the politburo. Then you can do as you please.

I had a relatively similar experience with the very same wine in the last month. It was my first LdH red so I don't know what that says about anything. It was more or less pretty, but not very aromatic, even with time in the glass and a couple days open. It didn't bloom in the glass like some 97 rosado I had about a year ago.

It's very hard to say much of anything from a single bottle of a single wine sometimes.

Cheers,

Kevin

I've had wildly erratic showings of Tondonia 1981 (red) but mostly consistent (and excellent) Bosconia 81, with one exception.

This is the new version Gentleman's grade?

LdD opinions:

There's a huge difference between gran reserva and reserva...

Funny the 81 impressions. My experience is other way round...

73 is probably, after 64 one of the best whites of Tondonia I have tasted recently. 81 is also very good
