Hmmm... I read the MMVII post. Sounds fishy to me. In my experience, the texture, aroma, and flavor of oak, if it is detectable at all, eats Gamay alive. Gamay shines by its perfume and tenderness. It's like putting combat boots on Marlene Dietrich to put Gamay in new oak. I don't think there's any mistaking it, for underbrush, or anything else.
