NWR: Hipsters and cleanliness

I read the following sentence this morning in the Washington Post:

"He called himself a hipster at one point, but it was pretty apparent he showers."

Is it true that hipsters don't shower? I assume the speaker wasn't saying as opposed to bathing, because she wouldn't have been able to distinguish from appearances.

How would this extend to hipster wine?

i think they are confusing hipster with hippie.

It's not "they." It's a woman saying something about her blind date in a column where they set people up who never wind up liking each other.

Given that hipsters (as a rule) are obsessed with their appearance and sartorial presentation, it seem obvious that the writer just doesn't know much about hipsters, or humor.
