Wines before sickness before spring

*sigh* OK, fine. No. Never. I've barely even heard of the first one.

Sorry to disappoint by not understanding what was surely a very witty rejoinder. Anyway, both bands were pretty well-known in Minneapolis and featured friends of mine.

The witty rejoinder was Mark's. I was just joining in the fun. Don't worry, someone will soon be along to explain the joke in great detail, and then you'll laugh hysterically and for decades.

Also: I was four hours north of Minneapolis, but even then had left the state (for good) before either of those bands existed.

07 Pacalet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru - For all the grumbling I make over PP's costly hipsterishness, every time I sit down to a bottle from him, I delight. This was no different, perhaps better. Just vibrant, lovely, smooth, exquisite complexity and zing. What was I eating? Veal? Lamb with a parsnip "french fry"? All I could do was stare into its eyes.

I'm in the The-Problem-with-Pinot-Noir-Is-It's-Not-Gamay camp, but my experience with Pacalet's wines has problematized this allegiance. We opened the 2007 Chambolle village yesterday and it was pretty mind bogglingly delicious. It's frustrating because I feel pretty strongly that one never really needs to spend more than $30 to get an amazing bottle of wine. Yet PP's wines just might justify their expense.

There, I said it.
