Ros time again...Spring is almost here

It is still 61 degrees on a clear NC night..today it was 68 degrees and it will be in the high 70's this weekend...time to try one of this year's Ross..

2009 Domaine de la Mordore Tavel Ros Rhne Wine, alc 14.3%..Sale $24.99 ...Grenache 60%, Cinsault 10%, Mourvedre 10%, Syrah 10%, Bourboulenc 5%, Clairette 5%...the nose screams out of fresh strawberries and raspberries...it is crisp semi-sweet and aciditic with some dried cherry and asian spice notes on the palate...really refreshing and focused...I like it better than the previous vintage...Promising, hmmmm
 
I think I'm a wuss, but both the Mordoree and the Perdrix I have trouble drinking until they've gotten a few years of bottle age. Well, with Perdrix I know I can drink it enjoyably with three years in bottle, with Mordoree I've only tried it too early to be sure.

Since people were predicting grand cru burgundy futures on the basis of the good '09 beaujolais nouveau, does this report mean I should go all in on '09 Chateauneuf?
 
We made a ros in 2009 that is so much fun to drink that you may have to call the police if you want to be able to stop! At least that's the consensus so far. Hope that's not too spammy for anyone (we only made 135 cases).

I have tasted a couple of 09 CdPs from barrel. It will be another very good vintage--but another one in the style of 98 and 07, I would guess, based on very insufficient evidence.

I used to love the Mordoree Tavel ros, but not only has it gone too pricey, but I am now finding it more over the top. Maybe my taste is changing, but there seems to be an attempt to make high octane ros, surely a contradiction in terms.

Jonathan, it was in 98 that I had escaped into the hills of Cairanne, and haven't been seen since. Not sure anyone is looking for me though.

You may be interested in Bedrock's new rose (it should be bottled this month). From 120 year old mourvedre vines picked at 22.5 brix, all in stainless and, if my barrel tasting impressions hold, a knock-off for Tempier.
I don't know when Morgan will release it but I will be standing in line when he does.

I am in Cairanne with some regularity in the course of the year. I wonder that I haven't run into you. You must not get out much.

I still have the 2008 he gave me I've been meaning to try. This is good rose weather here, too.
Last weekend I tried Clos Pepe's 2009 rose and it was excellent. Light and bright. Clearly made from pinot noir. It's like a pinot cousin to Ameztoi Rubentis.

Is this the "Ode to Lulu" or something else?...if so, the '09 is up on the website for $20 each

Yeah, I thought his rose from last year was pretty solid. will probably try again this year.

the real thing (not his cousin) just arrived. The 09 is really pretty and rumor has it will/may be the last vintage from this site (new highway or something like that). Gurraxaga rose is also really cool this vintage. Like cab. franc rose from the loire with muscadet mixed into it.

Yeah, the '09 will be it from that vineyard, but according to the importer they're planning on sourcing grapes from another similarly old and ungrafted vineyard. I've heard a rumor that they'll buy from Gurrutxaga, but can't confirm. Gurrutxaga is actively planting and expanding holdings, though, so the question of vine age is something to keep an eye (palate?) on.
