Poulsard

I don't what it is, or how he does it, but Puffeney just knocks it out. Based on this thread I opened an '07 Trousseau 'Les Berangeres' tonight. It is simply just a beautiful, pure, youthful wine. I knew it would be too early, but I just couldn't help myself. And a little more than an hour after opening, it is starting to close up. But, right out of the gate this was so, so pretty. Oh, and the most tannins I've seen in a Jura red yet (in my brief exploration). I saw a note on cellar tracker that described the wine as having some oxidative notes on the nose and a greyish-red color. Neither of these are indicative of what I'm drinking. Deep, clear cherry red color and a super fresh, clean nose here. Well, it's going to be damn near impossible, but I will try to hold onto the other bottle for a few years.
 
I couldn't believe it when I heard that there is approximately 12 cases of Overnoy brought in for the whole country.

From what I understand, a total of six bottles made it to Chicago in December thanks to Jeremy Quinn at Webster's. As of last week, there was still a single bottle in their stash, pining to be drunk...
 
I had the 06 Bornard Ploussard Le Chamade a couple weeks ago and was thoroughly impressed. It was at the table with some very fitting foods (veal cheaks braised in cider and some bone marrow somewhere in there too) so i felt it was really showing its best. I remember it being more angular than any Puff Daddy Poulsard ive had of late but that is a plus in my book. Cool stuff, looking forward to some of their melon a queue rouge with oysters at some point soon.
 
Recently had dinner in Seattle with both the Tournelle and the Overnoy. Both 2004s.

Different expressions, consistent with that is said here.

The Overnoy was more complex to me, but also more funky and changing.

The Tournelle was all about the fruit; yet very balanced and enjoyable...not overly fruited either.

I liked both.

BTW, finally made it to Terroir SF and noticed the fizzy in 2 bottles of 2008 Overnoy. First was off/corked, the second was fine, but fizzy...I'm not sure Luc? was happy to have to open two of them :). Cool place - I hope to spend more time there sometime...

Then you've had Trousseau, though in a blend. It is aka Bastardo in those parts.

My first varietal Trousseau was sweet and ~40 years old, and in a restaurant in Lisbon long ago.

I'll be curious as to what you think. My comments from a couple nights ago are above. I know you can get more, but if you only have one bottle you may want to wait.
 
First you tempt me, then you tell me to delay gratification, what's a guy to do!

Well, I only have one bottle, and I want to see if I should buy more before they sell out, so will have to be ruthless. Maybe the travel, or maybe the vandalism performed by the TSA on the wax seal (I'll post pictures) made it evolve further.

Ok, ok, never one to want to get in the way of someone's gratification, I say do it. It's such a great wine now. Really just meant to say that I think it'll be all that much better down the road.

I tried the 05 Puffeney Poulsard about a month ago and loved it.
About a week later when I was trying to buy more a sales guy (they were out) described it as the most over the top, weirdly extracted and non representative rendition of the grape he's ever tasted (And for reference, he was a big Puffeney fan.)
That seemed far from my experience but I have no other context to judge, any opinions?
 
'05s were my least favorite vintage for Puffeney's reds, of what I've tasted.
Although it's been awhile since I've tried.

The 2005 reds from Puffeney were very strange when opened in late 2008 and throughout much of 2009. I thought they drank as heavy, even stewed, wines. I am told, however, that they have seen significant improvement in bottle. So, you both may be right. I didn't buy any 2005s because I disliked them when they were released, and haven't tasted any in a while. Though I know a little wine bar in Soma that still has a few.
