Thunderbolt

Brad, that's because I closed the h1 tag again.

Some browsers (the better ones) auto-fix lousy HTML, and thankfully so, but for those of us checking in from hotels in Milpitas (or, I guess, from their offices in Ho-Ho-Kus), the browser options are more limited, and the problems are apparent.

The problem actually originated in Marshall's post; I fixed it, but then when Don replied to Marshall and quoted that post, he reintroduced the error. And the error comes because the quote function automatically introduces a pair of h1 tags before the quoted text; if someone erases one but not the other as they're editing quoted text, the fonts get screwed up. They serve no function, and should probably be eliminated in the quoting template...which would be a job for the politburo.

No worries, it's somewhat like getting an advance copy of the AARP version of Reader's Digest.

Joe- enjoyed reading your re-post. I had a similar impression.

Finishing the story:

Since I also had a small pour of 47 going, I did a little back and forth. To me the 21 had raisin-like fruit, compared to the 47's ripe peach, which brought to mind the possibility of some passerillage in 21? Perhaps there's some info out there that can tell us about the weather that season.

The 47 - athletic, gripping, energetic despite its being late harvest. I think this wine is still developing.
The 21 - lithe, luscious, long, sweeter and rounder. En point.

But as you say the 21 doesn't taste fragile, and this particular bottle endured and arguably even benefited from a day of aeration. Case in point, I took the last two ounces home, but first had to attend a late-night event at Angus McIndoe's (Times Sq) for a show I've been working on. While there I poured a small amount for a colleague. He knocked it back in a gulp "I'd buy more wine if it was all this good" he said, eyes twinkling. It was another couple hours before the bottle was safely home and in the fridge.

And the last ounce was still good the following evening. Melissa drank and handed the glass back for the last couple of sips. After 24hrs the acidity had begun to frame the structure more clearly, broadening its shoulders even as oxidative nuances crept into the mix.

I left the sediment to dry in the bottle as a memento.

(btw the 47- in superb shape - was one of the Garnet bottles from 98 or so)

Bob Scherb? No he wasn't at this reunion (or do you mean way back when?) . But pls say hello when you see him. He was a part of the NYC Compuserve gang in the mid 90s

I'll probably see him Saturday, and I'll tell him that you said hello.

Bob was at the tasting (back in 1998, I think it was?) that Brad tried to reference with his faulty html.

Let's hope Brad isn't in charge of the web site at Louis/Dressner.

Hey, I fixed the link awhile ago.
