Hello,
On sunday, a grand tasting was organized at the 104 (a new UFO in Paris - 19me) by Mr Pinoteau (Le Baratin).
The selection was almost good with top gun natural estate (Barral should be here...).
Jean-Francois Nicq from "Les Foulard rouges" (Fenouilldes - Roussillon) presented a very nice "Glaneur" 09, a blend of grenache and syrah.
Eric Pfifferling from "L'anglore" (Tavel - Cotes du Rhone) presented two beatifull 09 red "Pierres chaudes" & "Traverses" : light color, freshness, balanced...
Maxime Magnon from the eponym estate (Corbires - Languedoc) presented a very nice Campagnes 09 with mainly carignan : purity, tension, deep...
Cyril Fhal from the Clos du Rouge Gorge (Latour-de-France - Roussillon) presented a singing Jeunes Vignes 09, a blend of grenache & Carignan : freshness, tension...
Richard Leroy (Rablay-sur-Layon - Anjou) presented two nice chenin, Rouliers & Montbenault : purity, freshness, tension...
I tasted a burgundy estate and was totaly disapointed (Pacalet).
Best regards

The pab sees all, but remains unseen!

Thoughts:

R. Leroy - I was impressed by both of the cuves (08s); their elegance and balance.

R. Mosse was much funkier, which I like, of course. I don't think I'd had his Savennires Arena before (though I did get in the facile quip, "So they're making chenin in Corsica, now?"). 08 Anjou red was very good cabernet franc, but 06 I found OTT funk city. Peaty!

J. Lassaigne - what else can you say but, "No, I didn't get a pour, can I have another?" A few of us hung out at his table after the official part of the tasting was over. Alas, by then he had no more andouillette, which he had cut into fat rounds and served raw. As for the wines: Vignes de Montgueux just right; 06 Le Cotet less robust than 05 but still a compelling bubble; magnum of 06 La Colline Inspire, well, inspired. So much goes on in that cuve.

Ganevat - he had some aged Comt, which of course compelled one to circle back at the end for some more of the fabulous 05 Savagnin Privilge from magnum. Wine to hoard.

Puzelat - Alas, he only brought 09 P'tit Blanc and 08 Pinot Gris, 09 Gamay and Cheverny red and Cheverny Rouillon. Where's the Romo love? Menu pineau? But as we will see, I got my oxidative white fix a bit later on (and also above).

Foillard - 06 Fleurie was pretty; 08 Py still very young, and 07 Py much more commanding a presence and full; 06 3.14 still the thing you get all googly-eyed about; and a surprise visit from 00 Py which was grainy and heady and, as my neighbor said, "a pinote un max."

Pacalet - 08 Meursault 1er Chouachaux, 08 Pommard, 08 Gevrey, 07 Pommard 1er. They're all just so much beasts of gorgeous typicit. The Meursault was suave, the Pommard gluggable*. The Pommard 1er was a bit backward at present.

Eric Pfifferling (L'Anglore) - the discovery of the weekend, for me (he was also at Aug on Saturday). A 100% grenache gris called Sels d'Argent was slightly oxidative, round and fully delicious; reminded me very much of Puzelat's Brin de Chvre. I could drink it every single day. The reds were also awesome, a Mourvdre of crazy freshness and light and balance; a grenache that was impudent and rustic; and from magnum, a collaboration with Nicq of Foulards Rouges, a mix of grenache grapes from each domaine, and of ineffable suavity.

Frank Cornelissen - very nice guy, fluent in French as well as English (and I assume Dutch and Italian, to boot); the 09 Munjebel 4 bianco was still stumbling around its starting blocks; 07 of same had gotten orange and was pleasant; the reds I found of interest, but I got lost among them and my reporting shall stop here.

*VLM has not been posting enough lately. Let's see what happens.

Tried the 07 Mosse Arena Savennieres at Verre Vol a year ago and "The nose showed pear, nuts, anis, and glycerin, with other mineral and floral notes. The acid/sweet balance was excellent, with a lemony and pleasingly tart finish. Seriously good wine and great with food."

the mosse arena has always made me happy.

i keep hearing about ganevat fizz, what's the dealio?

frank cornelissen is SUCH a nice guy! his english is much better than mine...
