Everyday Cab Franc

Last night with brisket I wanted nothing but Cabernet Franc.

Starting with the lightest, we initially had the 2006 Guion Bourgueil Cuvee Domaine. Mostly on the earthy side, simple and light. Just amazing in its simplicity. But, it is in no way a boring wine.

Up next was the 2007 Bernard Baudry Chinon Domaine. I little more acidity here, and a little green. As the wine was allowed to breathe, more fruit came out. Definitely more classic Cab Franc, and it went really well with the brisket!

Finally, we moved to Saumur-Champigny with the 2008 Clos Cristal from the Hospices de Saumur. The biggest of all the wines, the green notes were still present, but the fruit was much richer and more alive.

All three wines were absolutely delicious, and each was totally distinct. The most fantastic thing about all of these wines? They are all under $20

Sniff. Unless I'm forgetting something, the Clos Cristal Saumur is the single French cabernet franc available at retail in Iowa City. If I've got a serious jones, there's a restaurant that has the Domaine de la Chanteleuserie Bourgueil. A sad state for a cabfrancophile like me.

boohoo,

Kevin

edit: I feel like I'm on the Burundi beef council sometimes.

I'll whine less and wine more in the future, I promise...
