Sunday Night Wines

Got together with a friend (who happens to lurk here) and his wife this past Sunday to enjoy some food and some wine. Loved both whites quite a bit. And the Morgon. Wow. I was pretty impressed. The oldest Beaujolais I've had and it was memorable. The Vosne? Well, it wasn't what I had hoped it would be (and what I remember it being from three years ago).

2008 Alice et Olivier De Moor Aligoto-o
Floats like a butterfly Stings like a butterfly. Just simply a light, lovely wine that would be oh so welcome on a warm summer day. Close your eyes and you can envision the warm summer sun peeking through the trees as the wind kisses your face all while you sit and nibble on a light salad or some simple, light cheeses. What was that you said? Sorry, I was drifting away there for a second. Huh wha? No, no, I wasnt looking at that lovely lass in a sun dress (wait, how could you tell, Im wearing sunglasses). Did I mention light? Oh, and did someone squeeze a lemon around here? Damn it, theres another rock in my shoe.

2007 Franck Peillot Rousette du Bugey Altesse de Montagnieu
This would be the De Moor if it had grown up in the mountains. A little more curvy (presumably from milking those cows to make that cheese which benefits the figure so well), a little deeper and touch more forward; just a touch. You want to hold my hand? Well, ok. Yes, I like you too. You have that je ne sais pas that, acidic humor I find attractive. Behind the barn?!? Wont the cows see?

1997 Marcel Lapierre Morgon
This was more burgundian than the burgundy. Was 1997 a big year in ye ol' Beaujolais? This had some bones. Actually seemed darker than the 2007 version Well, if you want to get into the club, Im going to have to ask for your ID You sure can dance. Are you sure you dont want to sit down for a rest? Whatd you say your name was again? Eartha Cherry? Nice to meet you. Im Chicken. Mr. Roast Chicken. Shall we dance some more?

1999 Alex Gambal Vosne-Romenee Les Malconsorts
Are you going to do something about that acne, man? Put some Proactiv on that shit. Dont worry shell call you. No, do not call her. Put down the phone, I thought you were smoother than that. Dont be such a spazz. Just put on III and chill out. I know youve moved on from IV to II, but believe me, side two of III and youll see what Im getting at (some day I hope).

Great, balanced cast of characters, including the animals, and a host of prurient impressions. Too bad about the reds not quite following their scripts (or, absent that, doing something better); I'm into Beaujolais tasting like Burgundy about as much as Barbera tasting like Nebbiolo.

Franck Peillot is an unsung hero. Every time I try one of his wines it is a wonderful experience.

On the '99 Burgundy, I opened a modest Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune a little while ago, and even it was a little grumpy and unwelcoming.

Word.

I could drink body weight quantities.

These are not tasting notes, these are Dada points.

And, (to generalize) - I like them.
Thanks... this made me laugh. Yes, they are a bit absurdist, but they were fun to write.

The Peillot was indeed quite nice. And on a beautiful, sunny day such as the one we're having today, I really wish I had some at home waiting for me.

Lars,
After a very long week, most of which I was under the weather, this may be the best of it.
Nothing but smiles.
Best, Jim
