Brut Vouvray

NV Pinon Vouvray Brut
Crisp, appley, minerally and clear but with a slightly creamy round deep middle that provides some flavor flecks to pique my interest. Nothing to ponder, but an elegant way to pour bubbles down ones throat. I plan to do it again in the near future!

2001 Huet Vouvray Ptillant Brut
For the first few hours this was cranky and unpleasant. I thought the bottle was somehow damaged and opened something else in the meantime. So then imagine my surprise when the rocky austere chalky woolly Vouvray Ptillant elegance came together and began to play nicely in the mouth. I was happy. As everyone has noted, not as golden glorious as the 02, but this was worth the drinking.

I'm assuming you mean the 2001 Huet Brut was not as good as the first release of the 2002? It seems like people on the board seem disappointed by the second release. I enjoyed it, but it didn't seem to warrant the accolades the first release received.

I haven't followed all the discussion/labelling on the different releases. Not sure which batches I have drunk/have in the cellar. But I think they're all riper and more golden than this 01.

2002 and 2001 were rather different vintages. The differences are obvious in the wines, as you would hope and expect.

They will both be very different wines in 20 years. And if you accept Francois Pinon's analogy of '01 with '64, you won't mind having either. '64 Huet fizz is still awfully good, even if it bores Brad.

If there's an '02 2nd release disappointment short bus, I'm not on it. Have had it twice or thrice and loved it each time. Great tension.

The '01 is tasty but I've never loved it.
