Hey, it's our tradition! Noone even thought of praying!
A motley crew gathered around a very tasty leg of lamb, a fairly tasty ham, random foods, and a few bottles of good wine.
NV Pinon Petillant - Halfway mark on a case, this is always good, esp. this release. I am really looking forward to meeting Msr. Pinon in a couple weeks, along with seeing Brad Kane as well.
06 Pegau blanc - corked.
06 Pavelot SlB blanc - pretty nice, but disappointingly, enough oak to be troubling.
07 Chermette Traditionelle VV - very delicious in this vintage. If I had to hand a glass to a Martian, or GW Bush, and say, "This is what good Beaujolais tastes like", I can't think of a better wine.
08 Brun CdB - already through a half case of this. Great with the ham. A touch less complex than the Chermette, more pepper and licorice. As much as I love this wine, the Chermette edged it out.
81 Chevalier - lovely stuff, lost in the rough and tumble of a buzzy large group. Gravesian to the end, pencil lead, dark cherry tones, but mostly just reassuringly delicious and cool toned.
80 Burgess Vintage Select Limited Library Release - Fuller and simpler than the Chevalier, this nonetheless match up with the lamb a bit better, which was roasted on the grill and had a Dijon marinade/crust. Full fruit, integrated oak, would be excellent with grilled steak.
