Not bad although to be more responsible (perish the thought) I would have preferred the headline to read 'more-educated' women as opposed to 'cleverest'.
But, at least the body of the text pointed out the nuances.
I should think that folks of both genders who "admit" to have a drinking problem are probably bright enough to understand the concept.
Bit of a red herring, eh?
Best, Jim
"Women with some educational qualifications were 71 per cent more likely to drink on most days compared to women with no qualifications...Higher educated women were 1.7 times more likely to have a drinking problem..."
Perhaps I'm just confused by British English, but 71% more likely to have a problem and 70% more likely to consume regularly seems like exactly the ratio you would expect if there was no correlation.
If one were to eliminate beer and ale, I suspect the results would be similar for men, too. A lot is tied up with class/economic station in the UK, from what I know. It doesn't translate directly to the US.
