1998 Laurel Glen Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma Mountain, alc 13.5%, $50....Fla Jim turned me on to this producer several yrs ago...this is showing nicely with resolving tannins and a smooth but firm presentation....No hurry but really good now and great with the medium rare beef...

I just found some 2004 for 30$. Guess I should put them away for a while.

I just found some 2004 for 30$. Guess I should put them away for a while.

We had the '86 last yr and it was very good...'91 has been good recently as well
 
Patrick Campbell was active on a wine board a few years ago which I also frequented. He has a lengthy track record of excellence. Plus, he is a nice guy!

At some point I need to start drinking the '95 Cab of his which I have a good bit of.

The 1986 might be my favorite vintage. I've never been as impressed with the 1991, although it is still very good.

I have no idea what the 2004 is like, sorry Georg.
 
As might be expected, given certain critics' view of the 98s, a number of them have been showing excellent balance and complexity recently. Heitz Trailside, Corison, Mondavi Oakville for example.

98 was considered a poor vintage in both Sonoma & Napa. As usual there are exceptions but overall a great deal of mediocre to poor wine was produced in N. CA.
 
I thought the '97 and '98 Laurel Glen Cabs weren't up to the level of 80's and early 90's efforts. Anyone know if there were big changes there at the time Do the wines still seem promising when young?

The '86 Laurel Glen was/is an outstanding wine.
