Conterno Monfortino with Treme?

Who knew we were supposed to be drinking Monfortino with the premiere of Treme? Not me.

The music was great. The cinematography outstanding. it was great to see my long lost friends Lester Freamon, Bunk, and Joannie Stubbs (and also that big guy from Barton Fink and O Brother Where Art Thou), or maybe their cousins.

It may be to much to hope for something close to ""The Wire," but the opening was excellent.

I am going to go with a Cascina Francia for episode 2.

I don't think they mentioned the vintage in the show.

Fla. Jim - it's the new HBO series from David Simon, who did "The Wire." Post-Katrina New Orleans is the setting. You'd like the music, and the visuals are great.

It was a great start to hopefully a rival to Deadwood. I paired it with a 2006 Descombes Regnie. It seemed to enhance the experience.

Although I haven't included it in my will, I have been insistent upon having a New Orleans funereal procession to my internment in a rural Knox County (East TN) cemetery. The opening scene gave a visual preview that hopefully influenced my family.

Wow, it was fantastic. There were moments that were totally stunning. I don't think I've ever seen anything like Clarke Peters in his chief feathers.

What really surprised me is the joy in the show (we all know Simon can paint misery). I found myself smiling and tapping my toes more than once. Everything seemed vibrant, tangible and real. When I was done, I watched it again. When that was done, I watched it again.

Will this be even better than the Wire?

Why do people even bother watching movies anymore?

Is their another artist based in narrative that is more on his/her game than David Simon?
