Le Bernardin needs a new wine by the glass program

Well into the crisis period, when banks such as Citigroup were operating on federal investment and when Citis stock was in single digits, Vikram Pandit, the CEO, was observed with a lunch guest at Le Bernardin, one of the top-rated restaurants in New York. Pandit looked discerningly at the wine list, saw nothing by the glass that appealed, and ordered a $350 bottle so that, as he explained, he could savor a glass of wine worth drinking. Pandit drank just one glass; his friend had none.

i adore the food at le bernadin, but the wine list in general has always disappointed. unless one spends big money, which i do not.

just go to 11 mad park, best by the glass list in the city, imo.

I hear that the food's OK there, too. [insert emoticon of choice]

Last time I was at Le Bernardin (many years) I ordered a Peillot Altesse off the list. Of course the regular som was out and the young guy we had was clueless (he refused to either leave the bottle on the table or take it out of the ice so the wine was too cold all night).

Went there for a fun lunch today with Scott and had a 2007 Von Schubert Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Spatlese by the glass. Perfection. The two course prix fixe is a total steal at $28, with all the amuse bouche trappings, excellent bread, two types of butter, and terrific service, sunny side up. The by-the-glass selection was indeed very impressive (more so for whites than reds, I thought). Any place that has 2000 Puffeney Vin Jaune by the glass has to have an extra neuron or two.

It's all very confusing.

Once you understand that we are all creations of Coad, it all becomes clear.

(Actually, that makes quite an appealing creation story: Coad, sitting on a lotus leaf, dreaming about us all talking on a website forum bored)

Is that like the sound of a tree falling in the woods?

If Vikram used his corporate card, Citi shareholders must be pissed. Out of principle, of course, since it's immaterial.

He's from a hot country, so it can't be based on sugar, has to be seed maturity, and the maturity of his seed, well, I don't wanna go there.
