Why no love for Deletang?

It's great to be back in the US and able to hit the Loires in my cellar. The first 2 up were Huet 96 Le Mont Sec and Deletang 96 Les Petits Boulay Sec. Drunk over separate nights but the Deletang-at this point in time- was much more open and exactly what I enjoy in aged Chenin. The 2nd half of the Deletang tonite-after 4 days in the fridge was still singing. Nothing wrong with the Huet except probably needing more time to sleep. So why no love for Deletang amongst the Loireheads here? Also any impressions on Gaudrelle lately? Loved the 02 but haven't had any since then.

Rahsaan,

The importer was Kent Beverage out of Wyoming Mi. So not sure if I bot it from Village Cellars in Mi-or STL or Chicago. This was pre CSW days.

We went through a case or so of entry demi-sec Deletang Montlouis about five years ago that was great, I thought, especially at the sale price. CSW cleared some out the same year at, like, $10 a bottle (we paid a bit more for ours locally).
 
So why no love for Deletang amongst the Loireheads here? Also any impressions on Gaudrelle lately? Loved the 02 but haven't had any since then.

I remember the 89 Deletang demi-sec fondly, might even still have a bottle or two in the cellar. But now that you mention it, I haven't seen them around lately.
 
Haven't had any lately, but was just musing to myself that I should find a bottle or two of '96 Le Mont sec soonish, it's been too long.

I don't recall the last time I was offered Deletang, and I have not tasted them in France either.
 
I recall many of the wines being toxically reductive last time I tasted with Peter Vzan in the Loire (Feb 2008).

Older vintages were delicious.

I also opened a 96 Closel Papillon-with a very low fill- last Oct-I would say of these 3 the Le Mont was most closed-so I have decided to let those sit and drink the Closel and Deletang.

I've really enjoyed the '96 Le Mont, but it's been a year or two. The '96 Closel has been delicious for ages.

No question that of the three, the Le Mont is the one with the longest future.

Do you have enough in your cellar for an all-Deletang dinner? The depths of your holdings will never cease to amaze!

Have you had the 96 Deletang Moelleux in the past 2-3 yrs? If so, any thoughts on when to drink a sole bottle?

Sorry, no. They've been forlornly languishing in offsite storage for a decade or so. I'll check my poor excuse for an inventory tonight (lined paper tablet at home.) Not sure right now what is Les Petits Boulay and what is Les Batisses, as far as vintage and category (sec, demi-sec ...).

(Rahsaan)All Deletang? Probably less than a dozen different vintage/cuvee combinations. If the usual hollow-leg brigade shows up, that may not be enough.

Where is your off-site?

None exist in NC and I need a semi-permanent solution to my storage.

I know of two places to store wines in DC and both are in Glover Park on Wisconsin. One is the Wine Locker, a dedicated storage facility in the basement of an office building and the other is Wide World of Wines, a store a block or so up the street. I've used both. Currently very happy at Wide World of Wines. (I enjoyed a meal with Elliot, the owner, last night, where we batted around some of the issues being discussed in the Shiraz thread). Don't know what their availability is now, but we had to wait a bit to get our locker.
