2006 Knoll Grner Veltliner Loibenberg Smaragd
Loose, fun, viscous golden mineral green beans with nutty undertones and a dangerously gulpable quality (dangerous given the 14% alcohol). Great match with a fava bean thai basil omelette and potato gratin. So easy to drink.

2007 Knoll Riesling Kellerberg Smaragd
Not quite as gulpable as the above grner but still possessing plenty of its own charms. Rocky, salty, and minerally and with air in comes the richer golden sunny fuller-bodied aspect. Overall it is fun to drink and a pretty good match with an oyster mushroom and multi-peppered pizza. This bottle was more focused and more to my liking than another bottle 4 months ago. But alas I have no more and will have to wonder where it goes from here.

I'm gonna kill you for using the word g-word in a note about the wines of my favorite producer.

I mean, goddammit.

Knoll wines are part of the Canon, IMO.

I thought slurp was your Most Hated Word.

Perhaps due to your vigilance, it seems to have disappeared from this site.

The s-word makes me grind my teeth automatically. I have a less visceral response to the g-word, but it makes me queasy.

And I love Knoll wines.

Was there a drop in quality? I haven't had the recent vintages yet, but the '03-'06 run left me disappointed.
