Expect some new faces- The Parker/Squire's Board goes subscription only

A famous winemaker told me the other day that he'd consumed the entire Mollydooker line on a bet once. He said it took him a long time. He really consumed each bottle.
Some hangovers aren't worth it. (Some are.)

I'd be concerned about any future wines from this winemaker, though. That sorta thing has to leave a palate mark.

This thread is a good example of why we won't get a mass influx here. Other boards all have a thread on what happened at eBob and the sense that that may lead to better goings on over there. This is our version of that thread. It would lead any rational and reasonable person to head for the hills. And we will be left, as we always have been, with, well, what's left.

What's left is what's right.

Flannery's stuff is damn good. Dousing it with Mega Purple reduction sauce makes me cringe.

Actually, and happily for me, what's left is mostly left. I do admire the openmindedness of the righties who stick around here.

What bothers me the most is how unwelcoming and exclusive this board can be. How would you like it if you were told you weren't welcomed here because you're gay and wear glasses? Well, many people here send out the message to newbies that they don't belong here because they're too fucking stupid and drink wine many here find objectionable and I don't see much difference between either form of bigotry.

I think you have the makings of a new Broadway hit, there. "You May Be Gay, But I'm Stupid!"

Actually, that's pretty catchy. I see Nathan Lane in it.

Me too, but I do what you do. I avoid it. No big deal, though someone shouldn't be ridden because they make such a post and that's the kind of thing that frequently happens here.
So I take it that you don't waste time and money to have a spam blocker on your email. Or else, tell me why you have a problem with email offers for Cialis (Russian brides, Dutch lotteries, ...). After all, that's what the 'delete' key is for. Right?

Not such a valid comparison as the amount of spam out there is Everest compared to annoying posts, which would be more akin to the tiny mound of dirt a worm leaves on a lawn. Easy to ignore.

Did this "Brad Kane" fellow just compare having strong opinions and different tastes in wine to homophobic bigotry?

My goodness, what an interesting board you folks have here!

Hi. I registered last night. I've never posted on eBob, but once I read a thread about premature oxidation there that almost caused me to prematurely expire. I've lurked here for a while and decided I would subject myself to the abuse of this board's denizens. I wish I had a survey for you all to take about what your favorite varietal wines are but I think I'm coming up a little short there for now. Perhaps in due time.

Pleased to meet all of you, and we'll see if I can last longer than a day.

The eRP board would frequently have 3 pages of new posts in a day. I often had trouble finding two posts that were actually interesting.

In any case, I think we can agree to disagree on this one.

Oh great, another one of Kane's alts.

Nice try Brad!

So, Chris, in your eyes, discriminating based on intelligence and tastes is different from discriminating based on sexual preference or optical requirements?

Hm, maybe we need to go really massive with the in-jokes.
Ouch. You mean it isn't massive enough currently?

Oh. I get it. That's an in-joke in itself.

Or not?

To us in forlorn corners of crisis-ridden Europe and away from the fine, real-wine world of CSW, this Hamletian doubt is a constant concern when perusing Wine Disorder.

Then again, amid it all there's some honestly interesting debate and opinion that keeps us Philistines looking in. Maybe a handful of not entirely insensitive Philistines from the other board could even contribute here...
