Expect some new faces- The Parker/Squire's Board goes subscription only

Apparently, as of tomorrow, the Parker/Squires board will only be available to Wine Advocate subscribers. While I expect more folks to migrate over to Wine Berserkers, I would certainly expect a bunch of new folks to check us out.

I can't wait to see how they respond to VLM's welcome...

I expect WB to be very nearly the sole beneficiary, not Disorder.

And while I can't say I'm surprised, exactly, I'm absolutely awestruck at their ability to get every single thing wrong about transitioning into the new media world. Every. Single. Thing. It's kinda unbelievable, really.

We could pin a "fuck you" post to the top of the forum, just to be on the safe side and to save VLM and Yixin time. Though personally, I think that meme is played out. Maybe we could just make every newbie read one of Jonathan and Oswaldo's arguments before they can post for the first time.

What's the deal with Berserkers? I've never read it, so don't know where it sits on the ideological spectrum. Half way between WLDG and eBob?

As tempting as it is to make jokes, it's essentially eBob without the dampening influence of Parker and Squires and a little more freedom to be hostile. Really no different otherwise, except cosmetically.

Oh, and they're afflicted with Albanians, which they haven't quite wised up to yet.

Per Kay's suggestion, maybe the Wine Asylum should be like the par-3 course.

They have managed to totally piss me off in just a few short months (and I am often slow to anger)...I really have no use for WB....I do wish that the old Westcoastwine.net could regain some traction but alas it is like visiting an Esso station!!

I think it's a good mix between those that are really into Ca wine and those that are more into traditional wines. There's nice participation by a number of Ca winemakers and plenty of itbers.

It is without a doubt much more sophomoric than here, but, frankly, a lot of discussions here make my head hurt.

I agree with Thor. This is a huge mistake -- yet again -- from the points camp. At least it completely opens up the throne for heaviest moderator hand to the Politburo. And just in time. What are we doing, talking about other places that talk about wine? Doesn't that violate three or four points in the terms of service? And yes, smarty pants, writing "terms of service" is (was, momentarily) ironic.

If it had promotional benefit to entice subscribers, it must be that they decided it was no longer working.
At least print subscribers will be allowed in, Tanzer's print subscribers weren't allowed in to his forum.
Of course, there isn't a print edition anymore so I wonder if that worked out as hoped...

So one now has to pay for the benefit of being kicked off for disagreeing with Squires et al? This has to be groundbreaking in the Internet content business model game. I assume they'll own all UGC too (that's user-generated content for all you hippies, a/k/a that stuff you put in the text box before you press "add".). Rupert Murdoch must be bright green.

You must be joking, Brad.
The whole eBob board is gone as of tomorrow unless you pony up?
Who thought that was a good idea?
Some soon to be unemployed PR guy somewhere is saying - oh yeah, narrow the brand - good biz.
Best, Jim

There was a heavy tendency towards trophy California wines at first but it's broadened its appeal. It still has a lot of frat boy mentality (which of course I partake in by having as my avatar an animated GIF of Tina Vey pulled up her shirt to reveal her bra).
