A Tasting Note in Verse

2008 GEIL SCHEUREBE KABINETT RHEINHESSEN 9.5%
In the spirit of collaboration
We have incarnated Andrew Marvell
Much maligned by this congregation
And psycographed this little marvell:

A DROUGHT OF TASTING NOTES IN VERSE
HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION
IT HAS PARCHED THE UNIVERSE
INTO SHRIVELED HUSKS OF TENSION

WE SHOULD MAKE OUR NOTES MORE TERSE
AS A MATTER OF CONVENTION
SUBJECTIVITY IS SUCH A CURSE
ANAL NEEDS DESERVE RETENTION

LAST NIGHT I OPENED A BOTTLE OF GEIL
AFTER RUNNING A CELESTIAL MILE
SCHEUREBE IS SUCH A CUTE GRAPE
THAT TORRONTS & VIOGNIER SHOULD APE

HAVING FOUND THE 07
THE BACKYARD OF HEAVEN
I WAS HOPING 08
MIGHT TURN OUT AS GREAT

NASAL PEACHES AND CREAM
LACED WITH LIGHT NECTARINE
MEET MY NOSTRILS IN FLIGHT
WITH NO PETROL IN SIGHT

BUCAL BITING ACIDITY
FIZZED WITH BUBBLY ACTIVITY
GENTLE ORANGE RIND BITTERNESS
GOBBED BY THE FRUIT, AS GOB IS MY WITNESS

BUT MY NEMESIS MILTON
YUCK, HIS BREATH REEKS OF STILTON
SO THUS ENDETH MY PERORATION
TO THIS AUGUST LIBATION

There was once a Vouvray from Pinon
A winemaker of great renown
His '05 Botrytis
Man, just outta sight is
I just could not put the glass down.

The wine had a beautiful finish
That took a long time to diminish
With sweet nectarine
Like I've never seen
It would even have gone with a knish.

Shall I compare thee to a chardonnay?
Thou art less oaky and more intricate.
Broad lees do drench the highly prized cuve,
And cross the palate in a thick and clumsy spate.
Sometime when I look into my glass,
I see no taleless depths, as in your eyes,
But rather something faintly premoxed, faintly crass,
And close mine lids lest foul disdain arise.
But thouthy heady palate shall not fade
Nor lose possession of the tastes and flavors there,
Nor shall Premox brag that thou hast been waylaid
When true to thy minerality thou remainst austere.
So long as glass glows green and bottles close,
Thy cru is grand and chardo blows.

How about a bawdier style:

The bonnie fine lass and her bard
Were fans of the great Clos Rougeard
As she pulled on his cork
With near maximum torque
Their beverages spilled as they sparred.

Brilliant!

Nicely done. This reminds me of a wine I had last night. It was the 2007 and was a little young, but still provided pleasure.
