Savennieres - 06/07/08 vs 05

I've quite liked the 05's I've had. I know dick about more recent vintages in that neck of the woods. All thoughts welcome...

What did dick have to say?

02 is reputedly good. Savennieres is a wine that should be able to take quite a bit of age well, but it shuts down (I believe) and many enjoy them young. The 01 Baumard Papillon was very good a year or two ago, for example (it might still be, but we finished ours).

If you 'search,' you'll find a recent 'loire chenin' report by SFJoe, which could help you get a feel for some of the region's wines in recent vintages. You may have to accept Vouvray and Montlouis as proxies, though: I don't recall whether Joe visited any Savennieres producers (Closel, perhaps?).

Josh, you may also consider the OCD strategy of wine buying where you find a producer or vineyard you like and buy every vintage. Obsessively. And then never drink them for fear of having a break in the chain of vintages.

It's working for me.

Already there. I just need to get my talking points in order so that I can feign knowledge of the wines I'm cellaring!

I've made the mistake of wasting cellar space on wines I wasn't familiar with...dangerous business.
