I mean, chard + oak, the hipsters are having epileptic fits.

Works at Ganevat. And the hipsters are still swooning or at least taking their phenobarbital.

I know Paul and refuse to do the Fuck You thing. So Paul, welcome and look forward to your contributions. Just don't post Scarecrow TN's.

In re: Bornard. There are some good wines (ginglet) mixed in with some microbiology experiments.

Sorry to everyone who wants a simple narrative.
Knew it couldn't be so cut and dry. I've only had three of his wines and none tasted like a science experiment. Of those only one was in your Dive write up, the 07 Ginglet. Nice. Not as good as Puff's '07 Trousseau, but what would be? The other two, the'05 Pinot and '06 Blanc de la Rouge Chard were both ok. The Pinot being a bit bigger than I had expected and the Chard nice and clean. Maybe something has happened recently with the winemaking?

I've got a question with Bornard as well. How can they be bad when many places seem to gush over them? (wasn't there a writeup about their Melon at 10Bells?)
Perhaps drinking them at a dive coloured the perception? I'll find out myself, as I have a couple to try someday...I'm hoping you're wrong.

I had lunch with Bornard and I really enjoyed his two pet-nats and have to say that he is a really nice guy.

Ah, the return of Brian Loring!

Tried three different Ganevats last year and didn't like them as much as Overnoy, Puffeney, Tissot, etc.

I tried the Trousseau a vintage or two ago, and it was badly afflicted with some kind of stink. The material seemed good, so I tried a couple more bottles -- same stink. The Pinot Noir and Savagnin ouill, on the other hand, were beautiful.

Fuck you, Lyle.

By the way, what are chiseled notes?

I wonder if it all gets siphoned off to hipster hot spots overseas.
Like Baltimore.

That's my town!!

FWIW, my limited experience with Bornard have been not good.

I.e. microbes.

Avoid the Trousseau. Never had a bottle that did not have that stink.

Was that in my TN? If so something to do with acidity. Any extraneous word in my notes usually is reference to high acidity.

I wouldn't do that to you guys here. I like a good gang bang every once in a while, but not when I'm on the receiving end.

I use chiseled. I'll look over my notes and see where I use it, but I'm sure always comes up with Riesling from Germany for me.

No, no; 'chiseled notes' was in Paul's note that kicked off this thread. The descriptor confounds my imagination.

I find that my chisels, when struck by hammers, usually emit a very clear E above middle C with 2nd and 3rd harmonics often thrown in, especially if the blow is a bit akilter. YMMV, of course.
