Why, oh why...

Sharon - you're on fire today, woman!

It's these damn Moonies, they want me to keep the estrogen level on this board at a certain point, and given that I have (I checked) over 5x as many posts as the next most-posting woman (w00t, maureen!), I must do what I can.

In all seriousness, I am not into women (snicker), but it was a surprise to see that the only women to have broken a few dozen posts are me, maureen (I use lowercase letters in deference to her usage), and Alice F.

None other! No ozzzer wimmins!

Appreciate the deference to my lack of capitalization - but I assure it's merely that I'm too lazy to hit the shift key before I type my name and nothing more. It's the laziness thing (plus the lack of insight into all those hip wines y'all drink and talk about) that also keeps my post count low. But proportionately speaking, there's as many women here as on other boards.

Not sure I can help all that much with the estrogen level you bring to the board (you are younger than me!), but I bet I can help more than Eden! But whatever happened to Virginia Guadalupe???? I loved "her" posts, whoever she was.

I haven't drunk the Kool-Aid on Rhys.
Say why?
Haven't had one yet! (But I know I dislike hype.)

Huh? Orange wines...

BTW, you appeared in a dream of mine last night, don't be alarmed, you were giving me advice on where to buy really natty cashmere sweaters.

I like beets. I just try not to blow them (anyone who wants to go LCD on this, be my fuckin' guest...)

Steve, one of the tastings in question was 2006-08 Sojourn (not an '07 tasting). The other tasting was '05 RRV (where cola is your friend):
Whetstone "Pleasant Hill Vineyard"
Emeritus "Estate"
Rochioli "Estate"
Dehlinger "Goldridge Vineyard"
2005 Verve
2005 AP Vin "Keefer Vineyard"
2005 Siduri "Keefer Vineyard"

Dan, the only Santa Rosa warehouse I taste in is German and Burgundy heaven. Ain't no CA Pinot there.

Mexican Coke rocks!

A long thread without drift is unseemly.

So which CA pinots did you try? Did they all have the cola flavor? I drink colas at times, so it is not an automatic negative for me. Of course it is subjective. I'm a non-smoker (more of an anti-smoker, given the last years of my father's life) and I cringe when I see a note citing tobacco, cigar box etc aromas. But I suspect that if I tried the wine and liked it I would not "smell" the same aromas. It makes translating the experience of the wine a challenge.

I have enjoyed many Girardins, mainly because of the clean fruits, but do find some a bit anonymous. I haven't tried any of my '05 Burgs for a couple of years, time to take another peek.

Thanks for listing. I haven't tried any of these but I own (and generally enjoy from earlier vintages) the Dehlinger. I can see cola of the APVin, althigh Andrew spent some time making wine in NZ a couple of years ago and I'm curious if the experience is reflected in his more recent offerings. I think I have a bottle of his '06 Keefer around.

I don't have my notes handy, but not all the '05s had that cola element. I recall that a couple of the wines were OK. I thought 7 of the 8 Sojourn wines were a flabby mess. The one that wasn't was an '08.

I'd still rather drink the Girardin.

I've tasted quite a bit of Dehlinger reds with this group and I prefer their Syrah bottlings.

And who was that hip sommelier chick... Boyd?

She actually exists - vanessa trevino boyd = I think she's still sommerliering in ny - but I always suspected that Virginia Guadalupe was the nom de plume of someone else who posts on this board - so who?

So, there's a difference between sex studies and gender studies?

Of course there is. Sex studies is all about the plumbing and gender studies is about how it's used.

And by the way, I don't get a lot of cola in the CA PNs I drink, but I'm a Dr Pepper drinker anyway so what do I know from cola? I've got my favorites but I'll defer to Larry's wishes and not commence to post a laundry list of my favorite PNs that I'm sure he'd like if only he'd try them. FWIW, I do get some sody pop notes in some Oregon and Mornington Penninsula PNs but never in Pinots from Austria.

And btw (and just for old times sake), fuck the newbies, fuck the oldbies, and all hail the politboro! I'd bet that they're the ones behind the influx of refugees from barren wine websites presently underpopulating the web. Besides, we're probably all figments of their imaginations anyway, so what's all the yelling about?

I hate to go mid-discussion, but I gotta head over to Facebook and help Dressner with Mafia Wars (he needs guns and garrotes!) and Farmville (he needs manure!). Talk about livin' large as a newbie, Dressner pretty much owns that Facebook world!

-Eden (I don't blow beets, bite wax tadpoles (or any tadpoles since I joined PETA), I'm neither Moonie or Scientologist despite having my personality tested by them once, and I definitely don't do people's nails. For those of you who require that your fingers and toes be "just so" at all times, I do highly recommend a nail joint in Malibu called "Polished")

Huh? New York FIRE economy...

Levi, the "dislike hype" quote is Jeff Grossman, not me.

And I don't get VLM's response, or yours.

I was just trying to boost your post count.

Me too.
