Hello,
We made a great dinner at the tgjp in Paris last friday for our Bat d'Af' event with Bandol 2000 (Tempier, Pibarnon, Lafran-Veyrolles, Gros Nor & La Tour du Bon) and two sweet Loire (Tour Grise & Baudouin).

Ask any questions on the forum and I will try to answer.

So you didn't like the Gros Nore?
I haven't tried the 2000, maybe it reflects the vintage.

I drank the '99 Gros Nore last night and enjoyed it, it had the essence of Bandol.
Wild, feral aromas and slightly rustic mouth and tannin.

Maybe not the highs of older Tempier, but lots of Bandol character in this bottle.

Thanks for the notes, I love a good Bandol thread.

Gros Nor has been rather irregular in the recent past, probably owing to M. Pascal's marital difficulties. Supposedly, that is all resolved now and M. Pascal is once again the ebullient giant of a vigneron that I recall from our visit. Their '99 is indeed a great Bandol rouge. I haven't had it for a while, but have fond memories of my last encounter with it. I'm more surprised that the Tour du Bon didn't show better, but I haven't had one of hers in a while, either.

Have you tried any of the more recent vintages, Mark?

I've got several bottles of the '01 Gros Nor, which was a pearl amidst the troubled years there. I've had the '04, too, which I recall liking quite a bit. If KLWM's still importing it, I have a strong suspicion that the ship must have righted itself.

Hello,
In the last 3 years, we drunk Tour de Bon Saint-Ferreol 1998 & 1999, regular 2000 & 2001 and we were always disapointed : no freshness, no balanced, lot of alcohol... I believe the winemaker is gone away in 2008 or 2009. May be the best news for the domaine.

About Tempier, I drunk last month a 2007 regular and a 2001 Tourtine. They were both absolutely singing : tension, balanced, freshness, complexity... and totally pure (no brett).
I drunk Tempier since 1985 and I realize that the 2000 Ravier turns seems to be a good one.

I'm pouring Tour de Bon (mid aughts, can't remember the exact vintage) by the glass right now and it's freaking delicious. Spot-on for the AOC and un-spoofy.
