The other night the agent and I went to Momofuku Saam late night to get some pork buns. While I have had mixed experiences with the other food options at Saam, the quality of the pork buns is well known. You should have them. Now. But, what made me so happy this night was the cocktail I had.
I had heard many exciting things about the newly created cocktail program at Saam. I believe it is Don Lee, also of PDT, who is responsible for the menu, and having seen him at 2 recent cocktail competitions, I simply had to see what was up. So, we sidle up to the bar and, knowing what we are going to eat, check out the drinks. One screams out to me as the most interesting and unique, the above pictured drink.
Immediately recognizable as a martini, it was at the same time completely new and fresh. It had umami, which for me is new in the martini world. The addition of the brine even seemed to add some weight on the tongue to add to the savory delight. Absolutely delicious and unexpected, I can't wait to try the other offerings!
