It's cool enough to ship intra-east coast now, and I recently received my summer CSW wines.
2005 Luneau-Papin L dOr
Pale translucent yellow, aromas of slightly lemony sea breeze. On drinking, very light and airy, rather like a light-bodied MSR Riesling, with excellent balance and a delicate nuanced mix of floral notes within the overall citrusy profile. Fine acids underpin the fruit, and a pleasant finish wraps up.
Ive only had the 04 of this before and wasnt wild about it. Perhaps this is at a different developmental phase; in any event it is an extremely pretty wine. Compared with a recent 05 Peppiere Briords, it had less heft and weight, but was more giving and conveyed a greater sense of finesse. Thanks for Jim C. for his many notes on this wine.
2006 Lafouge Auxey-Duresses 1er La Chapelle
Rather light, translucent red, with bits of lees floating around immediately after setting upright. Very fine, almost powerful floral nose, towards the strawberry end of the pinot spectrum, vs. the cherry end. On drinking, lean but fine fruit and taut, almost muscular acidity, ripe, clear, fresh. Towards the long finish, gritty tannins add an appealing bite and gout de terroir. Really good wine if you like lean, elegant Burgundy. Less fruit on the second day suggests it is falling asleep, which is about what youd expect. Great value, I would say.
