I am still on the wagon. It blows, but I had a friend over the other night and I opened for her the 2000 Haut-Batailley. I spat my four sips over two hours. Wanted to taste a Bordeaux, due to all this Bordeaux debate on the interwebs. Well, it was a pretty dull wine indeed. The thing that stuck out was the lack of energy on the palate. There was a lack of purity, did not seem glossy, but seemed muted, but not muted as this was closed, but muted as this is what the wine is. Just mute wine. Light cherry, some ripe tannin, average acidity, a little tobacco and earth and just completely uninspiring. Maybe would have been better 5 years ago when the fruit was a little more present because the secondary here was not worth waiting around for.
