2002 Blanc de Lynch-Bages

Two years ago I had a half bottle of this that was sublime, so I picked up six halves (from the same store) and six fulls (from another). All have turned out to be potably or inpotably premoxed, making this my unluckiest purchase. But, just to taunt me, the final bottle, drunk last night, lived up to the first. Aromas were a beguiling mix of jasmine, almonds, honey, lime and gunflint. Good acidity, with no trace of muscularity or oak, suggesting power derived from delicacy and inner composure. Like David Carradine, before he mishung himself. Theres an unconventional streak here that would not be amiss in the Jura, but seems utterly wild from such a mainstream producer. Memorable in a field of bad memories.

The 2001 is as sublime as it is unheralded.
Very great vintage for white Bordeaux. While premox isn't a problem to the degree that it is in Burgundy, white bordeaux isn't immune to it. Though I drink far less white Bordeaux than Burgundy (and for the life of me cannot imagine why) I've had the occasionally shot bottles.
