SP68

Yes, I've opened mine last night as well. It inspired me to seek out more of the wines of sicily. I liked it less than the 2007 passo, but it was fun nevertheless. I am not sure whether the one I had is from the good or bad batch, but it was a little tannic and alcoholic, but nice fruit nonetheless.

I need to check exactly what we had, since it was neither tannic nor alcoholic. At all. The absence of heat was what I specifically liked about it.

I know I know, I am sorry, I'll retract the alcoholic then. I hope this works out well for all.

No it doesn't. You are hereby sentenced to one year in a reeducation camp.

Heh. In my haste, I read that as a "reduction camp" and imagine poor Cristian sentenced to a steady diet of oversulfured, screwcapped Rieslings. Ouch!

Busy day today in the camp. Some high-ranking members of the Politburo visited, so we had bread for the first time in months, and wine brought straight from Sicily. Interesting wine, a little tannic and alcoholic but who cares, it's wine after all...

All this time I thought we were talking about roads maps of Siclia.

Once again I have no idea what is going on.

Man, when you move on, you really move on.

Reduction camp. Sounds like my 'chai' in late fall. Five fiercely reductive wines and then poor grenache, oxidatively apart and on its own...

Better keep them well separated, Victor, or who knows what mayhem might ensue?

Arianna's wines are probably my favorite coming out of Sicily. The first time I had the new vintage of the SP68 it stayed on my mind for days. At first it was simple, fun, cherry fruit with a hint of something more earth-bound. After an hour it bloomed into a damp, complex beast...but still with that fun cherry fruit. This is a wine that even my non-wine buddies really enjoy!

you dont have to love it just because it's cool.

[Apologies for thread revival but it seemed the best place]

I was pointed to the new hipster food spot in Milan "Eat's" that turns out to be sort of a subterranean Dean & Deluca grocery store with a little restaurant attached. As I am staying in the area I browsed and found some lovely stuff only moderately overpriced ranging from beautiful looking fish and meats and cheeses to cookies and whatever you would imagine a high end Italian grocery would sell (delicious donkey salame).

I went up a flight to the wine department and asked for something inexpensive (15E) that was the opposite of woody and international and bottle number 3 offered was the 2010 SP68 that was probably a bit overpriced (13.5E) but wonderful and delicious and at 12.5% not alcoholic at all to my taste.
