Frank Cornelissen "Susucaru 2" Rosato (2008)
After reading the mostly horrific community notes on this wine (including Cory's) I can only conclude I'm rolling twenties* with this bottle.
Positively electric orange-ruby grapefruit kool-aid color. Cloudy as hell.
Despite being a rosato, this is firmly in the orange wine camp in terms of style. That is, lambic type aromatics suggesting a gueze blended with fresh apricots and blood orange. Great palate with fresh macerated orchard fruits turning to astringent, grippy tannins. Very tart and a bit bretty like a good gueze.
At 14.5 percent EtOH, per the label, this isn't gunshy but this bottle wasn't spirity or warm in any noticeable way.
Anyway, this was $25 and surprisingly worth it, if your bottle in any way resembles this one.
For the nerds - we stood this upright a few days and then poured it off the sediment Ned-style. The bottom tenth of the bottle (with most of the sediment) was far less enjoyable. It showed best with a chill.
* snicker-snack.
