Arnot-Roberts

Has anybody tasted the new releases from Arnot-Roberts? I recently tasted their 2007 Syrah and though it was one of the best Syrahs coming out of California. You could have told me it was a Cote Rotie and I would have believed you...and that's just the entry-level Syrah. So I'm thinking I need to find some of the single-vineyard wines. Also had a Sauvignon Blanc (North Coast cuvee) from their second label: Swindle Rig. Gorgeous, ripe citrus fruit with subtle acid and great texture. Whole cluster pressed, no malo and it comes in a liter bottle! (Around $17 retail?) It looks like all their production is very small and they often use whole-cluster fermentation.

It's on my list of wines to try. I guess they source the syrah from a truc Sonoma Coast vineyard that's supposed to be one of the coolest in the state. I've heard good things about it from others.

I haven't had the current releases, but I've liked other wines a lot. Not cheap, of course, it's California, but the wines seemed based on a reasonable plan--decent but not crazy ripeness, no vulgar oak, good intensity, the whole package made unusual sense.

I'm not sure Cote Rotie is always a compliment, in truth.

I've had all of the current releases. I wish I could afford to have them on the list - They're good.

I'm actually doing an event with them on Sunday & am looking forward to making all of my friends taste those wines. 11.5% alcohol, whole cluster cab? Word.

I keep hearing about them but have yet to find any.
I'm headed to Sonoma shortly; anybody know where they sell it at retail in the Sonoma County area?
Best, Jim

The wine shop on the square in Healdsberg often has a few.

I don't know if you have enough time to drive to Forestville, but I hear they just opened a tasting room.

Thanks to all for the help.
A drive to Forrestville should be no problem.

So this is producer of the 12% cabernet?

Do you know which one? I was trying to hunt it down after having such a great experience with Rhys.

I'm not sure how much I care about whole cluster with cabernet.

Jim - They share the same facility with Wind Gap. Check out their concrete eggs.

None of the cabs I've tasted were much over 12%, if at all, but I believe it was the Fellom Ranch (Santa Cruz Mtns.) that was sub-12.
