and it showed - everything opened at my house tonight (01 haart pg sp, 08 selbach anrecht, 96 and 98 bertheau amoureuses, and 05 baumard qdc) showed really well. That guide does work!
 
didn't work for the Boxler 2001 riesling Sommerberg L31D. i am suspicious that the sourcing was the problem, as another wine in that Boxler batch from this store was similarly bereft of fruit.
the Haag of Fritz auslese 1994 was just fine!

Anrecht is a flat out awesome wine. I just opened another bottle this evening (along with an '09 CRB Gamay, and yes, I know I have no patience), both really wonderful.
 
Isn't every day a flower day when you have a nice dinner with friends and a few (or more than a few) good bottles of wine?

That said, last night's Pehu-Simmonet Brut NV was good, but no more. The St. Innocent Chardonnay was better than expected. The 2003 Donnhoff Kirschheck Spatlese finally showed a little spine, and the 2008 Anthill Farms Peters Vineyard was bright, fresh and one of the most easily drinkable California Pinot Noirs I have ever had.

Maureen you must follow a different calendar. Thun's sowing and planting calendar for North America indicates a fruit day from 6 PM Sunday til 9 PM Monday. Saturday was also a fruit day, it was a good weekend if you believe the calendar.
 
Well, it worked for the Bera Moscato d'Asti, it really worked for the '89 Trimbach Frederic Emile VT but a bottle of the 1993 Rollin Pernand Vergelesses was much worse than my last bottle from the same case.
 
Time to put farming hocus-pocus (by Focus) to the test. I'm going to get a Farmer's Almanac & see if it can do a better job of predicting when to drink wines than it does of predicting the weather. After that, Yankee magazine.

What lack of rigor! How can we be superstitious without rigor?
 
A 2006 Belle Pente Riesling was better than the last I had, but I suspect that has to do more with the 18 months of bottle age.
 
I'm starting to think Maureen is a Deadhead. Read: on bad wine days, there's always hemp to help in the kitchen. Very attractive and adaptable....first flush or not.
 
Is there a day for snarky cork as well? Tried to put Fass to the test, but my Haut-Batailly was corked. Erg.
