Holy Shit!

One of the best lines of the campaign so far from some conservative blogger is something along the lines of "Palin makes W sound like Cicero."

The Couric interviews are frightening.

I'd put the odds Palin has to withdraw from the race by Friday to "spend more time with her family" at about 10 percent.

I'm guessing you read Fareed Zakaria's piece in the Washington Post?

I'm usually not a huge fan as I find him to be a bit self-satisfied and not particularly insightful in the same way that Jim Hoagland was (who I assume he is supposed to be gradually replacing and my favorite op-ed contributor of recent vintage). Sort of an ethnic Anderson Cooper.

I've never yet heard Barney Frank sound like an idiot, although that may be because of lack of attention on my part. If anything, he often sounds like the annoying smartest guy in the room.

For real? 'Smartest man in the room'? C'mon, the only reason he's the Banking Committee chairman is because he's A) a Democrat, B) been a representative for a long, long time. Has nothing to do with the brightest bulb.

Perhaps I was unclear. I didn't mean to say he was actually the smartest man in any given room. What I meant was that, instead of coming off like an incomprehensible idiot, as Rahsaan alleged, to me he often has the air of an smug know-it-all.

So far, so good.

But your benevolent politburo wishes to remind everyone about the FAQ as it relates to politics.

Very interesting point, JB. Initially, my more paranoid side had assumed that Palin would display some idiot savant ability to sound like a seasoned policy maker after a bit of coaching. I am both relieved and depressed to see just how wrong I was. Now to put to the test the adage that the American public draws a distinction between people who are like them and people they want to represent them in gov't.

Listen Politburo, this shit is important, and directly effects wine consumption.

As long as everyone remains civil WITH EACH OTHER, I don't see the problem.

And what's up with the Jeebus page? I can't post a new jeebus thread for November in Seattle.

Checking the FAQ, I see we're discouraged from engaging in "inflammatory political/religious discourse."

I guess I don't see the inflammatory part here. But whatever. Your board, your rules, O anonymous mystery figure.

Is there a rule against embedding videos? I'm surprised no one has rapped my knuckles for that.

I'm Obama-Biden and no Palinophile, but, personally, I'm inclined to side with Uncle Joe & Co. when the discussion descends to attacks based on her gender and physique (including references to specific parts of her body, as in the now disappeared VLM post). These are plainly inflammatory, not to mention stupid and sexist.

Besides, most everyone here seems to agree, so it's a boring discussion, kind of like talking about whether Conti is good wine. Let's get back to oxidation in chenin, where there're disparities in views and tempers can really flare. Better yet, let's have another look at Sparticus.

Many of the lurkers are pro-McCain/Palin.

I'm on the fence.

I agree, we need a more respectful atmosphere here!

A question for Joe Perry: which Eric Rohmer movie defines the Rohmer oeuvre?

Can I request that the "benevolent politburro" create a political topic page where members can discuss these issues? For the benefit of the members.

That's a very good idea. We had one at the old place....

I did no such thing.

I think she looks like a stripper, so what?

What is Conti? If that is short for something, those sort of things are most certainly banned, if I read the FAQ correctly.

I'm assuming he meant Condi?
