True love made manifest

As many of you have already commented on FB, I celebrated a birthday last night. The dinner, roast rack of lamb, was accompanied by a very point bottle of 1999 Dom. de Pga Chateauneuf du Pape Cuve Rserve that had fresh acidity, restrained body and the characteristic kirschwasser scent with little Brett in evidence (as opposed to a bottle of their '98 that I opened earlier this year).

As I noted on FB, Jean's final present to me literally took my breath away: 1945 Dom. Hut Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Moelleux, fresh from CSW. My question to you all (even you, Joe): what meal to serve with this monumental wine? Should I serve it with a cheese course? On its own? Fellow Disorderists, I await your sage suggestions.

Congrats! "FB"??
I'm still awaiting my birthyear wine...I hear 61 Bordeaux are pretty excellent.

Happy Birthday, too. My birthday was yesterday as well. I wish I could say I got something as cool as an old bottle of Huet (actually CSW has a 1973 Cappellano Barolo that I am coveting; maybe for my 40th). But I just had a nice day with the kids, got some take out from a little Cuban joint and opened a couple bottles. The '03 Radikon Jakot was my favorite while the '05 Bonard L'Aide Memoire Pinot was ok (though much better with food; stood up to the Cuban pork fairly well) and started with a split of NV Chartogne-Taillet St. Anne which was a nice way to ease into the evening.

Geminis do indeed rule.

'89 CFE here. Took a couple hours to get going, but man is that stuff dense.

Mark,
I think the '45 is a little rich to have with a meal, even your hypothetical lobster in cream sauce or what have you. I'd go for cheese, or a nice sunset, or something along those lines.

Oh, and be sure to decant.

Many thanks, Dai-sensei. Cheese and sunsets are easier to find in these parts than a decent lobster, so all to the good. Will decant and report in due course.
