2002 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cte du Py Vieilles Vignes, alc 13%, $15...really drinking better than expected....good fruit and powder...intense and rich and quite open...wonderful

This is a producer I have ignored (perhaps correctly, perhaps not) but this was really nice
 
Did you buy this recently or have you been storing it and ignoring it?

I tasted a young vintage (maybe 2007) and was not terribly impressed but I heard that it needed age and your note certainly is in line with that.

I bought this in 9/08 (or before depending on when I listed it in CT)...Unclear where I got it...I was expecting to NOT be impressed but I was pleasantly surprised
 
I own some of that. I think I might also own some in magnum, but those bottles aren't easy to get to, so maybe it's the other Morgon, or another vintage. Thanks for the datum.
 
Morgons are known to age well, I thought. I think we opened a magnum of this about two years ago and liked it very much.

'Powder' is a typo, right? You really mean power?

No powder...a "face powder" type of dustiness that I occasionally find in Beaujolais
 
Glad I asked. I have to think about that - it's not just tannins, I'm guessing. But I think I might know what you mean, though I haven't run into in in BJ.
