Hey, question, will Eden's TN show up in searches, or does he need to repost it?

So Eden finally splurged on that gender reassignment surgery, eh? Congratulations!

I'm 90% sure that I met Eden and he was a dood when I met him.

Brad? Brad Kane, is that you?

Maybe we could riposte it? Or if done over dinner, they could repast it.

Everyone seems to be all Silex these days.

Yeah, it's sad that hes gone but lots of his wines have popped up (and open) at recent tastings. I keep waiting for someone to try to blind me with a Yarra Yering Dry Red No 2 or Merlot, but Bailey Carrodus wasnt quite as beloved in this wine hemisphere as he was down under. Its only a little discriminatory if you ask me (but nobody has, so I'll stop whining about it).

It was nice not having to make a choice.

Must have been some other Eden. Maybe youre mistaking me for Kay Bixler? (or maybe you thought it was me but it was really Yanniger when he was wearing a toga that night he tossed Thor into the jacuzzi)?

Happy Birthday Eden!
I love Camille Saves, especially the pink version.

Why, thank you! I dont feel much older but every year it just seems as if theyve got to amp up the electoshock stuff just a little bit more to make everything feel just right. But Im appreciating the Ros RM Champagnes more these days, but I've learned that it can cause trouble if you diverge from the mainstream.

For instance, I was at Venice Beach a couple of weeks ago wearing my Camille Saves t-shirt when a scruffy, confused and misguided soul (well call him dood, for want of a better term) walked up to me on the boardwalk just outside of Jody Maronis Sausage Kingdom, (which we think is really just a front for the Mormon churchs outreach recruitment program, you can tell by the name) and pointed a finger in the general direction of my chestal region and shouted YOU DEFAMER!! THERE SHALL BE NO FALSE IDOLS BEFORE HIM!! ITS CHEESES THAT SAVES, NOT CAMILLE!!! Taken aback (and by surprise, I might add), I replied (riposted?) by telling him that I was a big fan of Epoisses too but if you save it too long itll take on a whole new aromatic countenance and your neighbors will complain to high heaven (double intending the concept of making a big stink) and all the kitty-cats on the block are likely to go into heat from the aroma. The reality of this statement stopped him dead in his tracks and with a maniacal (yet kinda quizzical) look on his face he turned on his heel and began accosting the Scientologists who have the patchouli oil and corn dog concession a few stores down the boardwalk.

-Eden (personally, Im beginning to think that Im either SFJoe or Skraft, but I havent totally figured anything out other than that Im not Chris Coad because I dont own any Hawaiian shirts)(or muumuus either)

Nice sunset tonight:

Get rid of those wires, Eden.

Don't get me started. We were that close to getting rid of them, but the fucking California Coastal Commission decided that burying the poles and power lines would "adversely affect the quality of life in the neighborhood".

I don't understand it either...the neighborhood had all gotten together to pay for it ourselves...besides screwing up the view, they tend to cause wildfires when the Santa Ana winds whip up.

Shipping season is just around the corner, haven't forgotten about you...

May be in SoCal around Thanksgiving, will let you know.

I don't think Potel always disappoints - the 99 vosne gaudichot I shared with Claude last week in SF was terrific and his 1999 volnays are very strong, as is his 1999 bonnes mares. I think the charmes was more about the vintage (although I've had some excellent 2000s) - or at least Potel + vintage.

Until the last few years, Potel's Nuits and Vosne bottlings were consistently good, but the rest were inconsistent. The last few years have shown much better consistency across the board. Whether that change is related to the capital infusion resulting from the sale to Labour-Roi or just getting the hang of things, I don't know.

Frankly, Charmes is about the lowliest of grand cru vineyards, with much of it not worthy of more than village classification (it and Clos-Vougeot are the only grands crus that extend down to the route nationale) and virtually none of it worthy of grand cru, so a disappointing Charmes is hardly surprising.

There's so many grenache wines from Montsant that I like so much better.
Very few pure garnacha varietals in the region... A good, not very well-known wine (60% garnacha, 40% cariena) is Bra 2004, Acstic Celler.

Eden, I drove through a town, or a planned community or whatever, that had all the power lines underground and it was creepy. Obviously in your case they are cluttering up the sunset/ocean view but to me a town without them just looks strange, like no one really lives there. Maybe the California Coastal Commission drove through that same town?

Best,
Kay

Yawn. yes, we know charmes is the "lowliest" - nonetheless, several producers make excellent wine from charmes (Bachelet, Truchot, supposedly Roty but I've never tried those) and I have plenty of experience with Charmes so when I say disappointing I mean a disappointing Charmes - marking within context as they say.

I'll certainly look for it.
My thoughts, though, were for simpler wines. Vinos Sin-Ley sold some nice grenache-based wines from Montsant and the 2003 Mas Donis Barrica was an unbelievably good value. I have four bottles of the 2004 that I haven't touched yet but CellarTracker! notes suggest it's not going to be anywhere as good as the 2003.

Excellent, but still not thrilling the way they can be with top wines from all the other Chambertin growths (except Mazoyres and possibly Petite Chapelle). I can come up with at least 13 premiers crus that at their best are better than the best a Charmes-Chambertin can be, and at least another 10 premiers crus where one can have a serious argument about whether their potential is better than that for a top Charmes-Chambertin. And that's notwithstanding the fact that a large number of topflight producers make wine from Charmes.

Potel always does seem to disappoint.

Why all the hate? Not 'aha' moments, but I've never been disappointed.
I don't know about hate, but one of the reasons I haven't tasted comprehensively is my disappointment in overdone wines--too much upfront froot, new wood, deep color, lack of elegance. But I've only had a few wines.

Have you tried the Lafouge I posted about the other night? Not high falutin', but polar opposite of woody, inelegant, frooty.

WineHi, wine is nice. Nicer than dead actors or writers, nicer than tumbling stock markets. Nicer, even, than beauty queen vice-presidential candidates and internal logistical choices. No, really!

Wine talk is on my mind. I drank some, I think, a few weeks back. It was pretty good.

I think someone on the board has come into possession of the One Ring, and it is driving us all to strife.
