sparkling riesling :(

Just opened, tasted, and dumped another half bottle of sparkling S-O Zeltinger Schlossberg spatlese "schmitt" - what a shame - I nursed it for awhile to see if it grew on me but it just tasted bitter and not pleasing. Dang. Oh well - creates more space in the cellar.

ratzenberger makes a nice sparkling riesling. if you see it in your area give it a whirl.
Bill -- In contrast to Maureen's bottle, I think the Ratzenberger you are talking about is intentionally fizzy.

That's really awful. I've not had 7 or 8 full bottles of the '07 Schmitt with every one of them sound and delicious. Something had to have happened to the 375s. My 375s of Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Kabinett and Zeltinger Schlossberg (regular) Spatlese have also been just great.

Breuer makes nice sparkling Riesling, but Raumland makes the best sparkling wine in Germany.

Maureen,

Bummer on the Schmitt. I am aching for a Riesling, and I've been on an 2001 kick. Looking at a Merkelbach '01 Urziger Wurzgarten Auslese fuder - I don't know. Hope it's not bubbling.

opps. should have realized.

when these arrived I noticed that the corks were pushed up on several of them and opened one to ascertain why - apparently it refermented in the bottle or something (claude?) - I bought them from bill mayer and he acknowledged observing a problem with the 375s (I trust that was after he sold them to me) and said he'd take them back but I never bothered shipping them back.
