1989 Paul Jaboulet An Hermitage La Chapelle - France, Rhne, Northern Rhne, Hermitage (6/12/2010)
Everyone bogarted this and no one saved any for me.
2009 Ameztoi Getariako Txakolina Rubentis - Spain, Pas Vasco, Getariako Txakolina (6/12/2010)
I wasn't a fan of the 2008 Ameztoi Rubentis so I was happy to see this has returned to the quality of prior vintages. Some bubbles, but not as many as the 2008. Still lots of acid and it needs food.Jolly Rancher red candy on the nose. Wonderful minerality. Nice watermelon flavors. Light and tasty and perfect for summer. Not that serious but I love it. It's probably because of the color but on the palate there's a llittle bit of pink bubblegum that maybe makes it hard to take this wine too seriously, but for me it's a joy to drink. As you read this note the original vineyard for this wine has been bulldozed for a road, I guess. The last vintage that was all from the original vineyard was 2007. The 2008 and 2009 vintages were a blend of the old and new vineyards. A De Maison Selections import.
2001 Medici Vineyards Pinot Noir Estate East Block - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (6/12/2010)
This improved since I last had it almost two years ago, but not as much as the 2002. Real strong pinot funk on the nose. Showed some Rhone-like meatiness along with red fruit flavors. Decent finish. Not as concentrated as the 2002 but still a great QPR. Although it improved from the last time I tried it I dont get the sense this is going to age well or even hold, so I would drink these now if youve got them.
2000 Marimar Estate (Marimar Torres) Pinot Noir Unfiltered Estate Grown Don Miguel Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (6/12/2010)
I can't decide if I like this wine. I got an odd explosion of a spicy vanilla on the finish. I don't know if it's the Russian River spice or oak or what it is. There's bright cherry on the attack and mid palate and a little bit of that Russian River Valley cola Still some tannins, so this wine has a few years left to age. But that sudden shift at the finish is a little odd. It reminds of driving down a freshly-paved rural Nevada highway, with pristine black top and bright yellow road striping, and then suddenly hitting a dirt road. Maybe it needs a few more years in the cellar to iron out the wrinkles.
1998 Panther Creek Pinot Noir Reserve - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (6/12/2010)
This was an interesting wine. The color is quite dark, especially for pinot noir. The nose and flavors go along with the color. It's allo about dark cherry and darker fruits, plus some spices. Glenn thought it was medium bodied, though, and I thought it was lighter bodied. Just a powerful lighter bodied pinot. Wonderful finish.Nice elegance. It has aged well. Mark Vlossak was the winemaker.
